Don't Kill Me... I'm Just The Messenger...

Macintosh Quad

Sound On Sound Magazine said, and I quote:

"There does not seem to be an advantage for the musician using a Quad".

Sound On Sound said it! Yes, as far as I'm concerned they are the Gospel. They try and test gear everyday... fabulous gear the rest of us can only dream about... for the moment it's 'Dual's Rule'.

UPDATE...

The "Actual" Quote in Sound On Sound Magazine said this about the Power Mac G5 Quad:

"It's early days still, but so far we haven't seen any major advantages for audio users".

Guess I paraphrased... I was close enough...

lepetitmartien advised as much, several months ago... He's soooo clever!

To use such power we need really multithreaded software… One of the most funny thing is Logic is one of the bad boys on this line… Developers don't like to code this way because, sometimes it's not relevant (the gain is marginal) or it's way too complicated. sad.gif Intel has technologies making it easier as the multithreading will be partly made by the CPU/multicores themselves so it'll be less a pain in the a… of developers.

Well I just loaded up 39 Sculpture instrument plugins in Logic 7.2.3 with my G5 Quad2.5 PPC happily cruising along at 380% cpu usage. Looks like they got it right in this update.
