I have an MAudio Firewire Solo interface with my iMac and Logic Express, and recently I purchased a microphone for recording vocals, etc. Nothing too fancy, its called Whaferdale pro DM 2.0. I have plugged it into the Input 1 of the interface and armed a new Audio track in LE. Made sure the track is stereo, armed the track for recording and hit rec. The input isnt very loud, despite the knob being turned all the way up, but the main problem is that vocals are only recorded via the left chanel? I cant seem to be able to get both left and right recording despite the track being a stereo one.

What's going on?

Thanks everyone,

J

Its a mono microphone connected to a mono input and so will only record in mono.

You can use stereo effects like reverb, delay, chorus etc to create a stereo picture when mixing, but its really unusual to record vocals in anything other than mono.

Thanks Jim,

I'm not actually concerned about recording vocals in mono, I'm concerned about the resulting recordings only coming out of the left speaker, given that the recording only inputs through the left channel. Its awkward to have a track with the vocals coming out of only one speaker. How do I record in mono but make sure the sound recorded comes out of both speakers?
thanks
J

If you record into a mono track you'll be able to use the Pan pot to place the recorded signal wherever you want in the stereo image.

In Logic, click on the two over-lapping circles at the bottom of your audio track (to the left of the "rec" record arm button) and select "Mono" or one circle. Then select Input 1 as your input source. The resulting recording should be coming from both speakers on playback.

Hope this helps.

Hi:
That´s correct.
You can also move the mouse up or down over the pan pot and you will be done.
Regards.

delay to other side > 11ms , try 12 or 14ms ... sweet
