I'm going to purchase a Mac notebook for both me and my son, I would like to know who has the best or at least how can we get on the net with what type of wireless plans are best for bluetooth roaming plans. my son is in a rural area with not many hotspots at all, I'm in the city with very few hotspots also, but we would like to get on anywhere without having to rely on the hotspots? In other words, anywhere in the US via satellite or something to that effect? Greenhorn about wireless access, I'm an i-mac user without wireless, but would go on the road with my laptop, I'm a musician always on the go, and I want to get my son hooked up also with the freedom of mobility to use his laptop? thanks much for your support, I anticipate some of you computer veterans. I do have to thank ya's for the great advice with my music stuff. if you go to my website and click on 'check out hooks documentary' you'll dig it, I am the worlds "ONLY" one handed, one hooked piano-keyboardist extraordinaire', I bid ya'll much success with all your endeavors, thanks Hook 'em up' sad.gif

imhookt1... Please let me know how that Hotspot thing works out... A one handed keyboard player extrodinaire... I would like yo hear that... How can I? One of the best Boxers (Prize Fighter) and Pool Players I ever saw had one hand... The fighter knocked out everyone who stepped into the Ring and the Pool Player was the best Hustler I'd ever seen... If a one hand guy wants to fight or play pool with me I'm running away from them, but a one handed keyboard player extrodinaire!!! I'm running to you.

Cool beans man, I too am a pool player I kinda lure 'em into my game domain by starting out high $ bets. foes usualy think they can win, but little do they know, anyway enough for gloating about that, I would love for you to go and check out my documentary at http://www.michaelthehookdeutsch.com feel free to pass the link on. I realized I didn't put my website on the message, I also found out my powerbook gonna be purchase is not bluetooth, it's a matter of a wifi modem card or something to that effect? When I find out more I'll let ya' know. I bid you much peace and success with all your endeavors, Michael the"Hook" Deutsch ps. I could be a boxer also, but it would be an unfair advantage with the built in left hook and all. tee hee

Anyway, Bluetooth is not made for real networking, just basic stuff like keyboards, mouse, remote control. Printing is already heavy for it as it's a low bandwidth system.

Wifi is the i802 standard currently in its "g" version, "n" being round the corner next year (right now NO wifi boxes/cards are full "n" compatible as the norm is not final, and won't be till next year, so don't by the "n" stuff now, it may not be anymore later). It's now at some reasonable broadband speed (enough to surf smoothly). It's this wifi/i802 you should track. Forget Bluetooth, it won't lead you nowhere.

Side note, Apple is still in i802g, called Airport Express in the lingua franca of Cupertino.

Now on your question, check these:

wififreespot.com
free-hotspot.com

There may be solutions at no cost while roaming. wink.gif

(and please, keep on topic, thanks smile.gif

I've move the post from macdaddy, but I can give you an hint of my superpowers, when the question arose, I was just out of a friend who showed me the sites for the hot-spots… wink.gif

Also, I know there's hotspots in every Starbucks, but you have to pay for it. Other chains must have access, even free ones… check a few you know are around where you roam. cool.gif
