QUOTE (deaconblue @ Apr 23 2006, 14:26) But, this is exaclty like when Apple moved from 68k machines to PPC machines. At first the apps were few and far between that would run natively. For almost a year, the bleeding edge users (think current pro-app users) had to either wait or experience lagging performance at best. Once the application manufacturers 'caught up', the platform move made a huge boost in performance for everyone. The PowerPC chip made the Mac a truly competitive platform in the PC market for speed and reliability and paved the way for the G3 - G5 chipsets. We had these same issues when OS X was released. Apps had to be revved to work with Mac OS X. MOTU was one of the first to complete the transition to OS X, but it was well worth the wait (I remember running my G4 in OS 9 for quite a while, even after installing OS X on it so I could continue to record). Now Intel based Macs. FYI, all maunufacturers are provided with Apple hardware before it is released in order to build their applications and other goodies to work with the new platform, regardless of what it is (new chip, faster machine, G4 -> G5,etc). It is up to the manufacturer to have their apps ready. That the Intel based Macs were ready to ship 5 months ahead of the original schedule is *the* problem. But, what would you expect Apple to do? Hold off on being able to ship the new product because they did a better job of getting the units ready? I completely understand your frustration in this, but this is the nature of technology. And, for the majority of items, the Mac and the software for it does "just work". Much more so than a PC based system. And since Apple doesn't code for complete backwards compatibility, you have faster performance and fewer problems long term. The point is, I don't think you can lay all of this at the Apple door. But, again, I definiltey understand where you are coming from. paz... PAZ! |

QUOTE (moi180102 @ Apr 22 2006, 07:29) but this time Apple didn't work as usual. You do realize that Apple never said that Rosetta will work with all Applications. Apple only says that "most" applications will work and that is true. Rosetta is PERFECT for 90% of Apple's customers It just so happens that our apps are the small subset of "all applications" that Rosetta doesn't work well with. The Macbook does work wonderfully... if you have the proper software.
currently the on MacIntel DAWs are Garage Band3, Logic Express7.2, Logic Pro7.2, Sound Track Pro, and live 5.2. As you can see most of the available products are from Apple, so in their eyes everything is peachy, keen. Other companies just have to catch up. MOTU sez DP5 first, universal binary for D5, and Audiodesk is in the cue. No release date given. You are ahead of the power curve. So, on a response from MOTU, it looks like a universal binary for DP5 should be available by end of second quarter 2006 (June to July time frame).
Passion runs high, especially when you drop $7k US on any system. Boa sorte, moi180102. Things could be worse. You could be using a no name PC with no support and no really good forum to turn to for more info or assistance. peace. -------------------- |

Neither Digital Performer 4.0-4.12, 4.5-4.6.1 or for that matter Digital Performer 5.0 is in ANY way
guaranteed to work with Mac Intel (Core Duo) computers. MOTU has clearly said so. As for INTEL Macs -- MOTU has promised a Universal Binary version of Digital Performer 5.x that will be compatible with BOTH G5 IBM-PPC Macs and INTEL Macs (Core Duo). This update is supposed to ship sometime in the second quarter 2006. Cheers: Dixiechicken This post has been edited by dixiechicken: Sun 30 Apr 2006, 12:35 -------------------- ==================
