I am looking into purchasing a laptop for audio/video reasons. I want to always have access to my music at all times since I am on the road alot. Mostly I edit, arrange and mixed down songs. So I was wondering is the TiPB up to the challange? I hear that Apple is the way to go in the creative aspects in using a computer. But the highest speed the TiPb offers as of now is only 800 mhz. Do any of you use your Tipb in a recording studio? If so what are the specs of your laptop? Is 800 mhz fast enough? If you use any audio software programs ie. cakewalk, logic and or cubase....how well is Tipb with these programs? Plus anyone using the Tipb for editing video I would like to know what programs do you use and how effective is your Tipb holding up here as well? Don't forget the specs.... Last but not least what are some of the drawbacks to owning a tipb, I know this is a mac forum but let's be fair.... I hear the paint chips real easy and something about screens warping... I really need to know these things before making such a investment......

Hi rashad1!

I´m using a TIBook 800 with 1 gig of RAM, Hammerfall Cardbus + Multiface and external hds for my audio and video productions. Can´t say anything about Logic or Cubase, since I´m waiting with my Logic crossgrade from Windows to Mac until the OSX version of Logic is here (5.2, which was released yesterday unfortunately is still OS9). Using Ableton Live I find that my Powerbook beats my 1.4 ghz Athlon desktop by maybe 10 percent - plus it feels more responsive. So, for my needs I´m more than satisfied. I´m also using Combustion and Final Cut Pro on it to do some rough cutting before I load my projects into Inferno and Avid Composer - sluggish by comparison to Hardware solutions, but better than the Windows world - Premiere on the other hand runs faster on my PC - but then, I´m not using that smile.gif Peak runs flawlessly too, seems faster than Wavelab on the PC for most operations.

Drawbacks - well, I use a silicone screen protector, so my screen´s always clean. I do have two VERY small paintchips on it, which are definitely not noticeable if it isn´t your own laptop - pc plastic notebooks get more scratches, but I guess it´s just psychologically different if you have them on your 4000€ tiBook. :=p

If you have the cash and need something you´ll treat as an instrument and not a computer, get a tibook.
