Garage Band/loops, Copyright Options

If you record a song using a Garage Band loop, and try to commercialise (ie send it to record companies as a demo) it, are there difficulties with copyright?

This is a good question. Is there a chance any loop, without any altering, from a comercial source such as reason or garageband end on a a record playing on the radio. Would a producer feel the need to diguise the loop a little, even if it is "perfect", and even if it is legal to use the loop exactly as it is, just because such an accesible source is easily recognizable by a lot of people? Is this considered embarrasing, unpro? If not so, how common is this?

Hi Maziz,
no Maziz, this won't be a problem, because all of the loops you use from Garageband aren't registered in companys like the Gema (here in Germany) or any other. You are the individually Composer of the Music and you have all rights to confirm your sound. I know this for sure because I work for the TV and I produce a lot of Music in my work with Soundtrack Pro, espedially with Garage loops.

Loops provided in commercially and widely available applications are royalty-free almost 100% of the time - in other words, you can use them for whatever you like. What you usually can't do is create new sample libraries from the supplied loops etc and then sell them, passing the work off as your own original collection.

Musicians often tend to alter the bundled loops in some way because it's more rewarding, artistically. But if it fits your tune as is, why worry?

I try to use the loops to get ideas flowing and then replace them with my own sounds. But some of the loops are pretty good, and I'd like to keep them on some songs, in some form of shape...
