Hi guys, I am starting out recently and I want to setup my home studio
I have the hardware , but I would love to know opinnions about how setting it up I got 3 keyboards in my studio 1 Waldorf XTK 1 Triton Extreme 1 Yamaha Clavinova I purchased a MOTU 828mkII to Connect to my G5 DP 1.8 ghz with 1.280 GB RAM ( here is a pict to the MOTU imputs http://www.encouragersoftware.com/profile/828MkII.jpg ) I also have a Roland KC-300 Keyboard amp , its not awesome but its neat ( here is a pict to the amp imputs http://www.yuumusic.com/rolandkc3002111.jpg ) I will be using the Logic Express app , I think its enough power for my needs ,at least now The thing is , what do you guys recomend me to do to connect all my stuff to the 828mkII?? I only use one stereo output of each machine ( 2x plugs each one to get the stereo ) Do you recomend me to make that same thing with the 828 ??? Like ( === is equal to 2x cables ) Triton =========== [ 828mkII ] ====== [ Monitors ] Waldorf========== [ 828mkII ] ====== [Roland KC-300 Key Amplifier ] Clavinova========= [ 828mkII ] Or do you recomend me to get an adapter to join both cables into one output ?? like Triton ==========> [ 828mkII ] ??? Any other ideas ??? Thanks! , I would love to hear the opinnion of people with more experience |

I would run all the sound modules in full stereo or at least keep them that way. If you want to record mono just record one channel that way you can always choose between stereo or mono sounds. It appears that you can use the GTR/Mic sends to output signal to your amp without going through the computer first which is cool. If the amp is mono and doesn't do anything stereo I would connect microphones on the last two inputs one for your Gtr and the other for vocals or whatever you might do live. If the amp does stereo stuff you could use the last two inputs for stereo micing the amp if you like. If you have some sort of mixer for or a pack of mic pres with a stereo out option you could just connect that to your last two outputs and connect all the mic's you might be using to either the mixer or mic pre pack and send whatever mics you want to the two outputs in stereo or two seperate mics and/or instruments at once. You connect your monitors to the main outputs. Your midi setup might be a little weird though. It looks like there is only one midi in and out on the 828. To have midi going to all of your keyboards from Logic you will either need to get a midi interface with enough ports for your gear, or you could assign specific midi channels to each piece of gear and use the thru ports to chain the sound modules from the 828. This might limit some of your options with the synths depending on how you work. I hope this helps a bit and good luck.

thanks a lot man!
I don't have any problems with my midi gear, since Triton Extreme Has USB MIDI , so I can easily control my waldorf with it, My clavinova has midi , and I also Use a Beringer FCB1010 midi pedal, so I make a chain with it and my clavinova into the 828 More opinnions would be just GREAT! |

I run all of my synths through a mixer first, but since you are only using 6 of the 8 inputs its not all the importent, could help with input levels though. The way I set it up is that out put 1&2 act as the main outs, so those could go to your monitors. The firewire would go to the computer also putting the out put into 1&2.
