I need a recording device that I can take to musician friends' homes for recording. After recording a track I will bring it back to my G5-based home studio for mixing with tracks I prepared in GarageBand. I can't afford $1,200 or so for a new Powerbook, but I can plunk down $400 for an digital eight-track system. I have my eye on the Fostex MR-8 HD, which has phantom power and can record four tracks simultaneously.

Does anyone have any thoughts on doing that? When I put the workstation tracks into my system will they sync up time and pitch-wise?

Thanks!

If you bounce the garageband track onto your MR-8 and took that to your freinds place, they should be able to record over it with correct pitch and time. Then when finished, record his tracks back into your original session.

Or, inivte him over to your place and get him to record straight into your system, this would save you the money.

Thanks dangt for your thoughts on my post. It sounds like it will work OK. In recent years I moved almost two hours away from most of my music friends. They think I live in Siberia, so getting them to my place isn't as easy as it was. That's why I'm trying to devise a moble solution.
