Hi, I have just started learing MAX/MSP as well.

I know that MAX can do what you are wanting to do as I have seen it done but I do not know how to do it yet.

As for forums try http://www.synthesisters.com/cgi-bin/WebX ro do a search for MAX/MSP Forum on Google.

Hope this helps.

i recently had to read 40 mono files at the same time and mix/record them on 24 tracks after filtering, ... I did it real time with max - which is really easy in fact. You have to important objects for that :
groove~ - reads sounds placed in the RAM by the buffer~ object
sfplay~ - reads directly from the hard disk.

These two objects are really different but it should be enough for what you are talking about. If you have a good HD and a good CPu and enough RAM - if you have a good computer - you can read up to 45 mono sf at the same time.
