Sounds like you are getting all sorts of advice, probably makes it harder for you to make up your mind.

Protools LE with Mbox, with bundled software is good for producing, multitrack recording, mixing. make sure you get the digidesign adapted versions of Abelton Live and Reason with it (for sample looping, keys and drummachine). or get the full versions.

as well. Logic has some great instruments and is a great composers tool. and has support from many audio interfaces. great for keys and drum machines.
