Here is a breakdown of my equipment:

iMac (DV) w/ Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks and iSub
Midisport 1X1 interface
Cubase VST
Casio CTK 601 keyboard (it does the job)
Roland JV 1080 w/ Orchestral II and FX expansion cards

I have tried several configurations to set this up, but nothing has worked . How do I use the keyboard as the controller and record the JV 1080 sounds into Cubase while listening to the finished product through my desktop speakers? Do I need to download software for Cubase VST to recognize the JV 1080?

Any help is greatly welcome!

Without much knowledge of the equipment or software (I use Logic), aside from the Mac and the Casio (I used to own one myself), let me try to help:

For using the KB as a controller, you'll need to activate MIDI on the kb (or you had to on mine; check the manual for instructions, or you can download a copy from Casio) then connect the MIDI out of the Casio into the MIDI in of the Roland, then connect whatever audio output there is from the Roland to your sound input port.

From what you said in the post, it doesn't look like you NEED Cubase to see the Roland if all you want to do is get the notes from the keyboard then record the sound output in the computer. If that's all it is, your computer won't be involved with the MIDI at all.

Hope what little information is here is helpful smile.gif

From my experence with MIDI, it is really helpful to have at least a 2x2 midi i/o. This way you can use both the casio and roland if desired. to get the audio out of your desktop speakers you will need to plug the roland into them itself {if possible} or you'll have to write your sequence and then record the audio in cubase. check out synthzone.com They have a whole page of links related to cubase forums
