It may be that your computer is not compatible. I’m a beginner like you. I was getting the DAE (Digital Audio Engine) error in my Power Mac G4 trying to load Pro Tools LE with the Digi 002 Rack and found out that the Mac has a hardware problem….from lightening. Apple will pay for the repair. I tried running Pro Tools LE and the Digi 002 Rack in two Windows XP Pro computers and kept getting the DAE error message in both of those. I emailed Digidesign tech support and found out that both computers were not compatible with the Digi 002 rack. I upgraded one of the PCs and then Pro Tools loaded all right. The problem now with that PC is that the lightening got to it tonight and knocked out the sound. Moral: Don’t run your computers during lightening storms using cheap surge protectors.
Call M-Audio about your problem and hear what they have to say.

Good luck!

Are you running OS 9 or are you running OS X?

PT free will not be happy running under classic.
Can't find any relevant info on answerbase to your problem but I'm guessing it's not going to work for you...not with a usb interface on 5 year old software that only supports mac internal audio!
