Figured I'd post this here - someone might be able to help and any solution might help another sap somewhere smile.gif

I'm running LE7 on a MacMini streaming samples from a networked PC. I record al audio to an external hard drive connected via USB OR FW to the MacMini. I've completed several projects in this fashion with a great deal of success.

However, today, after upgrading to Tiger, there is suddenly a ten second delay and the 'spinning wheel of death' whenever I arm an audio track and press record. There is no problem with midi or instrument tracks. I made no modifications to the audio path prior to this.

When I change the audio path to the Mini's HD, all is well - except I don't want to record that way. I have tried moving the external HD to FW, a different bus and varying degrees of startup
I have repaired permissions, etc.

Anything I'm missing???

definitely sounds like a firewire driver thing. I remember I had this kind of thing in OS9 and it turned out to be apples version of Quicktime or some quicktime plug in that was causing the problem. However these days with OSX I dont quite know the same kind of self maintenance stuff, but I reckon if you try and go back to the firewire driver from 10.3, reinstall it or something or just copy it from another machine?? Sounds like the updated version of firewire is causing it. Or use the firewire installer from the CD that came with the drive. Whatever try and keep Tiger but with the previous firewire version.

it took me a long time to learn this and finally i have. i upgraded to tiger.. nothing but trouble with the os so far. i worked out the problems with logic pro and tiger, but i still had finder hanging issues. i recently went back to (ha ha) 10.3.5. i have had nothing but good results.

sometimes.. you just have to have a system that works, and us it. lastest and greatest is cool, but usablility is the key...

Drivers I reckon, chase your hd supplier or manufacturer if they have their own drivers, if it's using Apples drivers then, well, downgrade?
How about reformatting your drive under tiger, is it being journalled? Worth trying...
