How do u?
Stutter the vocal.
I want to sample a vocal and at the end have it stutter as it fades.
I hear it all of the time, esp. in dance music; but how do you do that?????

I'm sure I have all of the tools.
I can "kinda" do it with some fx.
but it never turns out sounding the way that it should.

please share some secrets..

It's really easy to do. If I were doing it in Pro Tools and I had a tempo map of the song I would just highlight the section I wanted stuttered in time like an eigth or sixteenth note and just duplicate it until it repeated as long as I wanted. If it isn't tempo mapped just play the highlighted section as a loop until you find the right amount to copy and repeat. It's a lot easier than it seems but you won't get the desired sound very easily using reverb or delay. Basically just copy and repeat the part of the audio file you want stuttered. It can get more complex by changing the length of the stutter with the song or to different parts of the vocal as the phrase goes by.

Or what about the gated stutter, whre you feed a hat or similar into the sidechain so that it closes on the beats and gives that chopped effect...?
