Logic Pro Rookie Question, Transfering sounds to Logic pro 7 Options

I now have Logic Pro 7 on my new G5 imac. I would like to "record" or "sample" my sounds from my Alesis DM Pro sound module before i sell the thing. I've been working with Logic for about a month and my question is: How do I "transfer" all of the sounds from the sound module? Do I record them one at a time and use them as samples? Is there a way to do a MIDI dump so they all appear as midi choices and not recordings? There's a lot to learn with new program and I'm not finding my question answered easily in the pile of manuals and books I have already purchased. I appreciate any help given but please answer as if I know little to nothing. Thanks!

I am afraid you will have to record all the samples you want from your sound module. Midi just controls which sounds, what notes if it's a melodic instrument and how hard or soft they are played back, to put it simply. Midi doesn't actually make the sounds.

I don't know if there's an environment for your Alesis, this will give you remote controls from Logic and may include something like a sysex dump, sysex will just be patches, bank info effect settings etc not actual soundfiles, sounds you will probably have to record in and edit up into exs...

The easiest way is to multisample the sounds you want and then play them using EXS24 sampler which comes with Logic Pro 7.

However, it's a _massive_ task to sample every single sound from your sound module. If you want a good result you'll have to sample every sound from several different keys and possibly with many different velocity / filter / etc. settings.

If you still want to do it, record everything as audio into Logic, edit the samples the way you want and then transfer and map them in EXS24.

I suggest you sample only some of your favourite and most needed sounds if you feel you're really going to need them. I'm sure you can recreate most of the stuff using the fantastic soft synths that come with LP7.

Get yourself a large hard drive and check out Autosampler from Redmatica.

Once set up it will multisample your modules, and create .exs instruments.

Your replys have been very helpful and have confimed my theories on how to get those sounds into Logic. Luckily I only have about 20 that I'd like to save. Redmatica looks like an interesting choice. I'm looking into that as well. THANKS ALL!!
