Big Screen Mac Options

This isn't exactly a music question but I have a g4 PowerBook and Im having trouble dealing with most sequencers on the small screen. I cant afford the flash wide screen Apple displays so was wondering if i could hook my powerbook up to my tv... ?

My DVD player has a video in socket (which is yellow by the way) which allows me to plug my digital camera in to my DVD player and see the photos/movies etc on my big TV... Is there some sort of adapter or lead that will let me plug my PB in to my TV?

Yes you could do that. I've used "iAverKey ProDV" from www.aver.com on my G4 desktop.
Although it works but now I use 2-17" LCD's instead.
I need more space for my other gears so the TV has to go (the TV was 34".)

i guess svideo will work, your pb should have it, I use it through my projector for movies etc. You'll be able to get a scart adapter that accepts the cable. Funnily enough I use the ADB cable off one of my old macs for an svideo cable..!

Set to 'mirror' displays in system preferences / displays.

You'll get a big display but you may be dissapointed with the PAL or NTSC resolutions...

Works good for me. However, natively, it will probably be fuzzy, or rounded. Try messing with the display preferences and overscan. Also, you may want to look into a program called DisplayConfigX to help get things sorted out. Should be free.

But even if you output to TV you won't get any increase in resolution - in fact a significant decrease - so you'll end up with even less screen area and you won't have any more space, which is what I assume is the problem.

You could pick up a cheap second hand large CRT monitor, that would make life easier.

I know on my PBG4, Live has so many new features (inputs and crossfade) now that it's pretty impracticle to use without minimising almost everything.

Ace! thanks guys... but surely if my TV is huge, I will have loads of space???

Also, does anyone know what kind of lead I will need to hook my PB up to the TV? And possibly where I can get one? (I live in London).

I think you misunderstand him red. He wants to add the TV as a second monitor, without spending any more money. Not to mention, depending on the TV, he may be able to get an increase in screen real estate (many TVs will go up to 1920 x 1080p resolution). Angryman, it depends on the TV, and the PB. If the PB is fairly new, it has a DVI and an S-Video connection (if its a 15" or 17"), or a mini-DVI connection for the 12". Do NOT confuse the mini-DVI with the regular DVI. For the mini-DVI, you can get an adapter from Apple that will change it to VGA, DVI, S-Video, or analog. For the 15" or 17", try to use DVI or S-Video, but if not, Apple carries DVI to anything adapters as well.
