Just wondering if you guys and gals have any preferences with respect to resolution and sample rate when working with uncompressed audio files. Any tips for a newbie?

Without going into a long explanation (got to go to sleep, it's 5 am for me…) It depends of the type of the final use.
Mainstream is : 24/44,1 for audio 24/48 for broadcast 24 bits gives you plenty dynamics to take and give, so it'll survive treatments till the end. Given you bring down the bits in the end too (to end on CD for example) Don't mix strange frequencies for the sake of it, using 48 KHz for a CD in the end is just screwing thing as there will be differing to be made to go down to 44,1 KHz and it's not an obvious operation. Higher sample rates are for relevant situation (really good conditions of recording, on adequate material, and if you have the power/space to work it). Note, this is NOT written in marble, it's just common day-to-day practice. People don't use higher bit/rate because they can, but also because it bring something they can grasp and use. Hmmm...ok. I just want to be sure I understand. Are you saying I should stick to 44.1(I'm just making music for myself for now), but use the highest bit-rate my system can handle?
Thanx, The J. |
