what does it mean when a device in the audio midi setup utility has a circled " i " icon on it?

It's just an information spot. If you put the mouse there and leave it for a second, the device's port assignment will pop up. Icons that were originally entered with older versions of AMS (prior to Panther, I think) don't have it. I'm not sure why that is.
