Howdy,,
I also have had terrible luck with the M-Audio product. I had successfully used their 2496 card in my old G3, and when I got the G5, wanted the same card. Bought a new 2496, and found out that it's physically incompatible with the G5. Took that back and got a retooled 2496, which DID fit in the PCI slot of my Mac. However, the card would fire up, due to some incompatiblity issues. So, I took THAT back and bought the Firewire MIDI interface. I got the audio to come through it, but the MIDI was all messed up. Tried to resolve it with their tech support people, but finally hired a consultant to come out to my home studio. After 1 and 1/2 hours, he thought he fixed the problem. However, the next day the MIDI weirdness was back. I became convinced that it was a defective unit, and went with the Firewire Solo unit for audio only, and the MidiSport USB unit (which I already had) for the MIDI functions. So, my fourth M-Audio product worked for me, which is not a good average, and I'm approaching using their stuff with great trepidation.... - Dana Countryman -------------------- http://www.danacountryman.com

HAPPYMOOG MAN
Bad you also had problems I am going to try to send you here, the email & ph. of a "disbelieving " M-Audio executive in Southern California. He is a "John Von S." and should know about your experiences and problems. When I contacted M-Audio this week(days ago) my email was eventually directed to him. My firewire port was made inoperable& Apple techs in Los Angeles said it is about $700 damage. He has offered no compensation as of today but I am going to keep trying. He MIGHT NOT be the exactly correct person, but he can pass along your complaints- his company title is "Email Support Supervisor" and he might have no authority nor power to correct things, but maybe, maybe . Hi,
I also have a m-audio firewire solo and it doesn't support OSX tiger. I had to downgrade to panther to get it to work. It's fine now, though. Regards. |

I just have to say that my Solo has worked perfectly with my imac G5 for nearly a year. Apart from occasionally having to reinstall the drivers (usually after Apple security updates!!)
However, I have heard of many users having problems with their Firewire ports burning out especially with the 410. That's the thing with M-Audio for some people it's great and for others it's a nightmare! -------------------- imac G5 / Logic Pro 7.1.1 / Presonus Firepod/Line 6 POD 2.0/Roland GR-300/

When you say can't get it installed what do you mean? Have you downloaded the latest drivers from M-Audio?

It`s weird. I Never had any trouble with my 410. I only traded it away so I could get protools. (Nobody told me they where cocking up M-POWERED.. ).
Today I`m using M-Audio Fast Track USB with Logic Express 7. NO TROUBBLE AT ALL!!!. It may be the hot-swapping has messed up your firewire drives.. I Was considering upgrading to another firewire card to use with ProTools m-powered, but now I think I can just as well stick to the Fast Track. -------------------- @ home:

I am using a Firewire Solo without any problems, on my G4 Minimac 1.25 mhz.
I am not using Logic 7, though. I use my Firewire Solo with Pro Tools 7-Garageband 2.0.2-Metro 6.3.3-Reason-Live 4. I am using OS X 10.4.3 I am very pleased with my M-Audio products. just my humbled opinion!!! -------------------- 1.25mhz MacMini--OS X 10.4.3-Metro 6.3.3--M-Audio keystation 49e--Oxygen 8 Controller--M-audio Firewire Solo--Fernandez Strat--Fender Jazz Bass--Fender Precision bass--Epiphone Acoustic--Roland MA-12 Micro Powered Monitors
