Please help, anyone! I upgraded my Mac G4 (dual 800 processors) to OS X Panther, and my Tascam US-428 is no longer recognized by the computer. I followed the instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers that was sent to me by tech support, and I still cannot use the unit. In the Audio/Midi setup utility, the only audio options available are those built into my computer, and under Midi setup, the Tascam US-428 unit is grayed out and is shown as offline. And in System Preferences, there is no option to select the unit as a sound output. I've uninstalled and reinstalled over and over again, tried different USB cables, etc.
I've looked at a few forums online and have found several Mac users who have had the same problem (with the 428, 224, and 122) but have found no solutions. The only solution people have posted is to downgrade to Jaguar, but I cannot do this. Too many other programs require Panther.
I've been trying to get help from tech support for several months, but they have not offered a solution. One person at tech support said it might be a problem with "upgrading" to Panther, as opposed to using a mac with Panther already installed. So do I have to buy a new mac in order to use the 428? This makes no sense! Do I have to wipe out my hard drive and reformat it? And lose all my files? Aaaauuuuggggghhhhhhh!!!!
Does anyone out there have any idea how to fix this problem, or get around it somehow? I'm on the verge of boycotting Tascam.
Thank you.
