Hi all -- I am looking at one of three choices at the bottom of this post for a firewire audio card and I had a couple of questions. I am really looking at any differences between the units that you think are signigicant (other than simply counting inputs and outputs) and why one choice might be better than another for what I am planning to do. I really want to focus on hardware but if a particular unit has great software that's a plus although I doubt it is a deal breaker.

Here are my bounds.
- I am an amateur but hope to work towards some small time mastering for local video work.
- Most audio will be done with midi and reason but I plan on doing some limited recording so that is why the acquisition.
- I expect that the number of inputs will be low (guitar / 1-3 mics) but expandability is a plus since I know it is easy to add inputs.
- For software I have Reason 2.5, DP 4.12 (soon 4.5) and Tracktion. I will look at adding others as I go along but this is my starting point.
- Working with Reason and DP are a must.
- $$ are limited but I've found some good deals and time is of the essence (not to mention it's Christmas and my wife is in the giving mood smile.gif

From low cost to high cost here they are.
- Presonus Firebox. Not yet available but a great price
- Presonus Firepod. More bucks but more inputs and future expandability with other interfaces.
- Motu 828Mk II. Most everyone loves this interface and I expect no software issues with DP or reason. It's probably overkill for me and it will stretch my finances.

Thanks for any responses. Decision has to be made in next 2-3 days.

Later -- Jeff

Since you are using DP, go with the 828, DP has built-in support for it.
Probably can find a original used one on eBay in the $300 range.

Check for the MKII, the preamps are better. Else you'll have to invest in decent pre later wink.gif
