Sorry to say that you have to run a cable and burn to a recorder externally with FreeStyle. I have been using FreeStyle for years and it's a great educational tool. Too bad MOTU service stinks and they really have no plans to keep FreeStyle going. That's why you can't run it in OSX. I just upgraded my entire classroom to OSX and bought Logic Pro. Maybe it's time you did too?

Hey Barb, and all else out in cyber heaven/hell.
Please tell me how does Logic Pro size up to DP-4? I am use to MOTU, and have been advised to go from FreStyle 2.31 to DP-4. My music computer is a G4 single prosessor 1.25. I do have a G5 available that I use to run the office. It's single prosessr as well 1.6. Perhaps there is a way to link them via USB. My synth is an older modle however. a Kork 01/W. No USB port. Any advice and or thoughts are gretly apprciated. p.s. I have only been dealing with the forum 4 days and find it a gas! Standing by... |

I can only tell you why I went from FreeStyle to Logic and not DP. Basically, I have been dealling with both Apple/Emagic and MOTU for years. Apple/Emagic gave me better service. Just try getting through to the customer service at MOTU!
There HAS been lots of talk about the customer service issue with Apple as far as their recent upgrade. I don't think these concerns are any different with other software companies. Some companies will upgrade you if you bought the old software within a certain time of a new upgrade and some won't. Apparently, Apple is fitting into the "won't" or inconsistant category. I still have had no problems but excellent service from Apple. Another reason I picked Apple was because I thought that an Apple software product would work well with an Apple computer. Seems reasonable. We also work off an Apple Network so I took a guess that we would have fewer issues or at least Aplle could help with those issues. I also loved the concept of Audio Units and Apple integrationfrom the operating system through the network right down to the software. I am an educator. I don't need software/hardware conflicts. DP is a great program and I think in the end it comes down to personal choice. Good luck. |

They address the promlem within minutes as apposed to the way it was in the ol' days when it took weeks. i know that we have been in contact via e-mail, just want to say this for the general forum. p.s.- no I am not on MOTU's $ roll. just dig participating in the forum as best i can. Standing by... I agree.. They are mucho better..but I use both Logic and DP. Just got DP4.5 and it's great! Not problems and have integrated in seemlessly into my work environment. There are some issue with Logic 7 in that not all of the NI plug-ins are working that work in Logic 6 Pro. I fix I assume will be coming.. Kiowa11,
Get DP4.5. It still supports AU/VST plug-ins. Motu tech/sales have always provided me with excellent serivice. I've been using all the Motu software for years since starting with FreeStyle when it first came out. I recently gave up on Logic when Apple refused to give me a upgrade price after I had supported Emagic for years. I even provided Apple with copies of all my invoices for all my purchases and upgrades. Steinberg's SX series is also a viable option. It also depends on your budget and how involved you are with creating music. |

Incidently, if you are interested here as an url http://agektmr.7days.jp/Vision/ where you can from the "download" page download a midi/audio sequencer originally sold by Opcode. The company is long gone but the fans of the program, such as myself, support this site. The programme is all free now. I still use the programme running it in real OS 9.1 on my G4, and also my 8500 and 9500. This post has been edited by midimacguy: Mon 1 Nov 2004, 23:13 |
