Hi there,
I worked with my G3, Logic 4.8 and OMS 2.3.8, Midisport 2x2 and it was oke. Now with my new Powerbook G4, MacOs 9.2 and OMS the trouble started. First I copied my setup from the G3, that didn't work (huge delay and no Midi in). Then I made a new setup with the same result or worse. Does anyone has a clue what's wrong and is there a better Midi software solution for Logic (and Reason) without OMS or Freemidi ?
Greetings from Holland.

So now we have a third user of midiman 2X2 who has troubles with Logic this time (after DP and Cubase), with OMS enabled… We should make a club Seriously, as for the others, check if your midiman has up to date drivers, Unfortunately there's no alternative to OMS for you… try to reinstall form the beginning (logic, OMS and midiman but not the way you did before… Any one has an idea… it's getting worse the death of OMS (X wil come and save us… -maybe-

logic always works better without oms. just set up the midi environment to reflect your setup and let logic's own midi driver do it's thing. make sure you've disabled oms in logic's prefs and removed all it's components from your system. also, forget free midi. logic might try to tell you that your midi interface dosen't support individual ports, ignore this message and everything will be fine. logic's environment will effectively do everything that oms or free midi do, it's just a matter of setting it up and saving as your 'autoload' song for logic to load it on launch every time. to use reason with logic in this configuration you'll have to use oms and tell oms that reason is an iac device but this never worked well enough for it to be practical, unfortunately you'll just have to make a choice between logic and reason (easy choice really !) if you rely on reason, bounce your work as audio files and then import them into logic, at least you'll have solid timing ! oms is dead but the osx future is looking good, check the 'x' forum on this site for info. peace, later......

Hi from Australia
Ive been using OMS + Midisport 2x2 with Cubase 4 and also 5 with no probs (as long as virtual memory is turned off) for a couple of years in my G3 iMac. At the suggestion of my Mac guru I upgraded from OS 9.0.4 to 9.2 and now the Midi timing is terrible. Interestingly you can play files by outputting to Quicktime but that doesnt really help the prob. I think that there is an incompatibility between OS 9.2 (and also 9.1 as I tried that before 9.2) and OMS but that is only a guess.
Maybe we will have to retrofit 9.0.4!!!
I hope someone has a simpler solution.
Matthew

Thanks for the replys and support.
I've found my solution : delete OMS and buy the Emagic MT4 ! I hadn't heared of it so I'm a few years to late (and one anoying weekend). The MT4 can work with or without OMS (I'm now working without) and has 2 in and 4 out (al programmable). I am still waiting for Reason with will probably start the next software conflict between 9.2 and OMS, but we'll see. The best solution is hopefully Logic in OSX.

oms hasn't been updated in years, was never very good anyway ! 9.2 is a much better system than 9.04, don't even think about it. if you're really saying the midisport has to use oms (u sure?) either stay on an old system or, upgrade: on this subject, if you don't use logic, make sure the midi interface you use is compatible with your sequencer of choice with the minimum of third party fuss/clutter. cubase works best with midex, dp3 works best with mtp etc. finally, if you think your computer can handle osx, looks like all thse kind of problems will soon be a thing of the past ! don't go there yet though. check this site for the info... peace, later.

As far as I know the only reason to use OMS is… Reason More seriously, the internal MIDI utility of Emagic works only with emagic hardware (AMTx interfaces) and is definetly better than any OMS driven solution (not that difficult So the midiman is certainly a case of OMS obligation too A few months of purgatory (hope hope)…

The OMS develloper was doing so spare time… now he's full time on with Tevanian and the other bad guys from Next… Could be worse I've got only a limited (and painless almost) experience with Freemidi and OMS together (use of the editor of the Nord Modular) but the sooner OMS vanish, the better. (hope, faith, miracle)
