Hello,

I am a Music teacher that finds himself solving mac problems for other teachers at school. So, now I have some hopefully simple questions: VST Related. I posted this question in SOFTWARE, but realize I should've posted in this forum......

I see these VST apps in magazines, are they mostly Post Audio import effects? I run DECK BIAS 3.5 on a 600 MHZ 768 RAM G3 Graphite iMac. Deck says it's VST compatible and I have tried downloading some Free VST's, but can't get them to appear in the pluggins.

One last question please: if VST's can be operated on incoming signals, is there a VST that will act as a compressor limiter. I have a Roland compressor for Vocals, but I don't want to have to change the settings for the Keys, Guitar, bass .......etc. If there is such a VST, I imagine it would be processor intensive.

Thanks for your time. Oh, what what does VST stand for?

Thanks again,

Mixolidean

if your using os x the vst go into the /Users/<your user>/Library/Audio/Plugins/VST folder.

as far as a real time compressor. if you check in your plugins folder in the bias application you should have some basic apple plugins. the compressor is called dynamics or something like that in the menu. you can download some mda VST effects free. i think they are called carbon MDA Vst. search google.
expand the compressed file, drag the file to the folder i mentioned in the first paragraph.

happy recording.

go to

http://www.kvr-vst.com

and check out the links to VSt plugs...there are a few compressors out there

http://www.digitalfishphones.com/main.php?...tem=2&subItem=5
has a great one.

You need to make sure you are getting the right VST format too....PCs have a ton of free plugs available, but none that work with Macs.

go to KVR and do some research....it's a great site.

Cheers

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your responces. I still am at a standstill. I really like the FishFilet. And having gone to the website, a VST download was available.

Again, being new to VST's, I am unable to get the VST to show up in my DECK windows.

I put them in every available Plug-Ins folder, USER, SYSTEM, even the VST plug ins in the Deck App.

Is this because it's not a CARBON MDA VST?

Thanks for your patients. I hope this helps other readers.

You might have to use a vst wrapper. it basically mimics a vst into being an au.
fxpansion has on that works. i am sure there are others that work too.

If Deck can use VSTs, and you down loaded the Fish Fillets VSTs for Mac osx, and they are still not working, something is weird.
The VSTs for OSX should work. Otherwise you may want to try the Audio Units (AUs) and put them in your components folder ie

~/library/audio/plug-ins/components.

or make sure the vsts are in

~/library/audio/plug-ins/vst

I believe all vsts for OSX are carbon VSTs.

The format itself was designed by Steinberg and means
Virtual Studio Technology

Again gentlemen,

Thank you for your time. I have had success in using several VST plug ins. Thanks! Each of these plug ins are the kind that are accessable with the standard Bias VST effects.

The kind I am interested in using are the "seperate window" with all the cool buttons and knobs. These elude me. How do I get these to work in conjunction with Bias.

If you cold possibly help I'd appreciate it.

i use bias peak, and i do exactly what i have explained eariler. usually with mac osx vst have to be wrapped. either with fxpansion or some other vst wrapper.

try downloading AU (audio units) version of the plugs you want. you will not have this problem.
