I've searched but haven't found any threads on using a new iMac as a DAW. Is there anyone out there doing this? I am leaning towards buying the 20-inch model. My needs are very modest. Just single tracking on my own.
Endorsements? Warnings? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. My only remaining reservations are the limited connectivity options (vs. PowerMac) and fan noise. Apparently some users are complaining about the fan, others think the new iMacs are very quiet.
Anyway, this machine solves so many of my needs at a reasonable price that I will probably end up with one.

I can only talk about my G5 (desktop, 1,8). fans stay quiet (low noise) but I hear the powering up when I'm going to 100% CPU. It's stays loud about a minute then goes down to a better level. Far for the NOISE some G4 did… I'm still to see an iMac G5 so I can't evaluate the levels. Connectivity wise, you have everything you need firewire and USB. So no problem there, but spaghettis at the back Better connectivity would be to have additional internal drives or PCI cards, but given you needs, you don't really need them. for a drive, a Firewire would be enough, audio interface thru fw or USB… Just give it some ram.
