Yes, it is possible to fry a firewire port. What is more common is just having a firewire port that gets messed up such that it stops working, but can be reset and made to work again.
There are different ways to reset the ports on different models of Macs, and I don't know how to do it on most of them. Do a search on the user forums on Apple's website or on Macintouch.com. I know that it's as simple as opening up your Mac and pressing a button on the port's circuit board. Many people have replaced Firewire ports that they thought were fried only to reset them 2 years later and have them working again. Good luck with yours. |

unplug EVERYTHING
open the mac remove the lithium battery (be careful with this) locate near it the reset button press it 20 seconds put everything back in place If I remember well (can't find the exact thread for the reset of port to be sure, here it's the motherboard reset) Now, you CAN fry a Firewire 400 port. Just plug in your cable in reverse and he's done and there's no cure, the chip is fried. -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home
