I want to start downloading music from the Internet. I have a G4 but only System 8.6. I will be adding an enternal CDRW drive shortly and am a newbie. Questions: 1) Must I have a higher operating system? 2) Do I need I-Tunes to get music from Internet? 3) Where does one go for such things? (There was Napster, & Morpheus & Kazaa -- but not for Macs!!)

Any suggestions would help!!!

You might want to try downloading Limewire and use it. It's an excellent peer to peer program and you can pickup multiple feeds. It has both audio and video of all types. I have included a link from Versiontracker:
www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=9714&db=mac

I personally believe Limewire is far superior to MacSatellite or Macster, both are one dimensional and very slow. I hope it works for you.

Thanks for the info. New question: I have downloaded LimeWire. I can't seem to get any further!!! If I try to start a search, my 'Search' button is not highlighted for use. also, at the top of the screen, I see the word disconnected and at the bottom of the screen, see 'Shared Files: 0' As I see it, no one else is connected when I am connected or I am make some error (probably somthing very simple!!!)

Suggestions???

Thanks, Stephanie

Limewire requires you to file share..so maybe you should try to put some files inside the sharing folder within limewire. You don't have any mp3's yet so just put tempoarary files in like jpegs or somefiles that are not private like maybe some games or small apps. Now after you do this the sharing files thing will recognize these and you should be able to search.I would suggest you start by getting some mp3's in there and taking out those temporary files and way you go.You may have trouble getting to download at first but a tip is to pick the titles from the servers that show group numbers to start with. Good luck!!
