Ok, I've looked at the product comparisons but this is a question for anyone who has used both. Can you name the three main benefits of having Logic Pro over Logic Express. (Try not to restrict your answers to midi as lots of us use audio quite a bit too!)

Try to convince me like you're a greasy salesperson. tongue.gif

For me, as an owner of Logic Express, the 3 main things that I wish I had are.

1. The plug-ins, obviously Pro comes with quite a compliment of plugs, esp. the instruments.

2. Express only has 3 undo's, that can suck, if you don't pay attention, you have to revert to saved.

3. Surround, would be nice.

Other than that, I really find Express to be quite adequate for my purposes.

I was originally using Logic Audio Gold 5 and upgraded directly to Logic Pro 6 and I must say there are some MAJOR changes in the way the program works...

First off is the pluggins:
I love the capabilities in Logic Audio Pro - there are more than Gold 5 and Express... They sound better as well.. The controls are better laid out and work very well...

Sound Editing:
You can actually get sample accurate edits now!!! So nice... With Gold 5, I had a terrible time just outlining the exact sample area I wanted to affect... Beautiful... I know that a lot of ProTools Users are laughing right now because they've had that for a long time... But, now with this in Logic connected with the MIDI implementation make this an "all inclusive" package for a serious musician...

Synths... Wow... I love no less than 5 new synthesizers... Amazing... The Digital Piano is wonderful... EXS24 has wonderful sounds and is very easy to edit... as well as the ES1 / ES2 Combination... And the Organ is seriously too much more than I need but it has great sound...

Not to mention all the MIDI capability (Yeah I know you didn't want to hear that!) But Logic in my book has always been superior in MIDI production... The Environment is a wonderful tool...

I just purchased a UC33 control surface and programmed my own interface using the Environment - I'm not sure how much of it is included with Logic Express...

But, I also find that having the extra tracks, the synths, the higher audio input capability and routing functions were worth the money for me...

Hope this helps!

I just want to make sure you are aware you can purchase Logic Pro for $499 with a Student Discount through www.apple.com

any accredited school will do even if it's not listed on the website, just call them up and give them the school's name.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with Logic Express.
