I encounter the same message over and over again. ' YOU'RE RUNNING OUT OF CPU POWER. TAKE OUT SOME PLUG-INS TO FREE UP CPU POWER ( -9128 )'. So I went on Digidesign web site and found all about this message and did all what should be done and still after a few seconds of listening to a recording or any other song,  the same message appear. I've zero initialysed my hard disk and reinstall Mac OS9.1.1 on my power mac G4 400Mhz with 576 Mg of RAM and still the same. I downloaded Pro Tools Free a couple of times. Still the same. Duplicated my extension manager and custumized my setup to lower down the traffic in the CPU nothing works. But when I first used Pro Tools Free last year with Mac OS 9.0 it was working fine. Could it be that Pro Tools Free is incompatible with Mac OS 9.1?

Thank you both for answering to my letter. I changed my DAE buffer size in the setup menu from 2 to 8 and everything works fine now. Sometimes things are so close to your face that you cant see it. Thank's again. Hope I'll be able to give you a hand in near future.

Also, be warned that if you are using some plugs you scavaged off the net... some are meant only for TDM systems and eat so much cpu power that they are almost worthless on a non-TDM ProTools machine. Also, running to many plugs in general along with too much automation may be a problem too. If you increase the amount of memory to your DAE app that runs in background... that may help as well.

I use PT 5.1 LE on a G3 350mhz and OS 9.1.2 and have no probs except for when I run more than 4 plugs at once due to slow computer.

Yes there are a few plugs that are TDM and will run on RTAS system but one plug max and even then it might not work very well without crashing. You don't like TDM? Have you ever used a TDM system? I am guessing you are a die hard VST user. All I know is that I prefer to use PT over most other audio sequencing apps and RTAS, AS, and TDM is only choice so those what I stick with. There a few dozen more VST plugs but since the programming seems to be getting easier... almost anyone can make them and the quality of most just doesn't appeal to me. Some are interesting though and most RTAS ar available as VST too so which format just depends on what app you use for sequencing.

i daily work on a TDM system since years, that's why im not a TDM fan.

i didnt know about TDMs workin under RTAS huh.gif which ones?
btw: i prefer the RTAS technology, usually robust and affordable

and yes, im also a VST user. i do agree w you about the quality of some VSTs et al.
workin every day on PT showed me its power, but also showed me all it's limitations and bugs, that's why i prefer VST related apps.

I think there are a couple Big Briar TDMs that run on RTAS system. They were very finnicky and consumed lots of power though... but I may be wrong as well because they were found on net and may have been really RTAS but I can't imagine an RTAS plug taking as much power as they did.

i have seen this error message on my powerbook when running it with power adapter off an iffy electrical circuit that was also being used by digital mixer (which drew a lot of current). i think it has to do with the quality of actual current that is being drawn to the power supply, which in turn messes with the CPU activity. in the studio that i was in i switched ciruits to a better grounded circuit and it ran fine.
do you have any conditioned electricity in your home/studio? try switching to a circuit that is not heavily used by other electrical devices...
