Help Me Get The Best Setup For Me.. Thanks Options

I run LogicPro on a 1.25 ebook with max RAM and it starts to groan when you put space designer and a few other effects on - or more than a couple of VSTi's

I talked to the the Logic guys at a recent trade fair about Logic Pro - and they said basically you need a G5 with as much RAM as poss to get the best out of it.

As the software progresses they wll write it for the latest machines with the highest specs - yeah it will work on lower spec machines - but you lose a lot of the features - or it just grinds to a halt when you try and run them.

The problem with G4's is (amongst other things) there is a much lower limit to RAM.

External Firewire - yeah - don't ever use an internal IDE drive - not just for security (if your machine goes down you still have the data and can just plug it into another machine) - but performance is better.

Buy cheaper - buy twice.

an external firewire drive is quicker than another internal drive.. or did i missunderstand you

Much quicker. You can get Fireire 400 or Firewire 800 if you are running a G5

Fireire 400 is fast enough - but if you have the ability - get Firewire
800.

I have not settled on a notebook style unit for portability or maybe an imac or similar which do u think is a better one to go for... how portable are imacs? if i had to move it once very 3-6 months total I assume it is easy enough to do but i doubt I would have to but who knows

hmmm, portability outside of a book style?
I don't have an imac - they look very cool, but seem clunky to transport.
The next best "pickup and go" would be the emac. I don't think they have any limitations for basic multitracking. but I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried.
