QUOTE (toontra @ Jul 11 2004, 13:22)
It's sad that Apple have messed up so much in their 20th aniversary year! Both of Steve's last two major keynote speeches have actually drawn gasps of disapointment from the audiences due to their lack of content, concentrating on superficial design changes and, in my opinion, gimmicky "lifestyle" software rather than new & innovative products.

The big screw-up was his promise last year for 3G processors in the G5 PMs. He wasn't able to keep that promise & now looks rather foolish, & sales (me for one) will suffer. Combined with the debacle over the iMac production and this rediculous wait for European customers, both for the IMS and perticularly the mini iPods, this has been a very bad year indeed.

Let's hope for better in the remaining months, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hey, you just don't have to wait to buy one, simply buy one of the alternatives. Its the best way to send a signal to Apple. As long as people are willing to wait, Apple will do their best to fill the orders but its unlikely they will see it as a huge problem.

Me, I will just wait till supply catches, up. Have the first generation iPod and its going strong.

Demand is very strong for the little iPod... no massive news... hopefully Apple can release a thiner normal sized iPod and curb some of that demand... yes, the problem is with 1.8 inch (?) drive maker, not so much Apple... the only thing unusal here is that Apple is ADVERTISING the iPod... which happens to create "demand"... I wonder what would happen if Apple advertised the Macs? wow... that would be interesting indeed! Just a heads up... the same thing is going to happen with the 30" displays... even the 30" Poster is going for upwards of $250 on ebay, just think what an actual display will go for once they begin shipping!

Apple has always had supply problems... it tends to be on the cutting edge, thus the cutting edge of production. DeLL doesn't have to worry about parts since they don't do anything new... so you can blame Apple all you want, the problem is "innovation coupled with advertising"... not some solveable problem Apple can wave a magic wand over... get real...

I agree that they're hard to find, but I was in a Best
Buy last week and they had three iPod minis in stock
(and I bought one).

I'll bet a lot of companies wish that they had Apple's problem of having a product become ridiculously popular.

I ordered an iPod mini online direct 3 months ago, got one reply saying it would speed my order up if I went with an un-engraved product. So I said fine and I have heard NOTHING from them whatsoever. Money has left my account - oh yes - but no correspondence to tell me where it is, when I'm likely to receive it or ANYTHING. I am very angry. Has anyone else had this problem? angry.gif
