Thing about buying a PC is that unless you build it yourself, it's hard to know exactly what is in the machine and whether or not the internals are gonna be compatible with the software and audio hardware you are gonna put in it. All the big companies are constantly putting cheaper and cheaper hardware in their computers. So by the time you price a system that's made with components especially for pro audio apps, you're gonna be in the price range of the mac anyways.

So why not just go with the platform that the music industry designs for anyways and get a mac?

Just my 2 cents

Hello... Mac's are industry standard for Audio & Video. (Period)

Get a Mac and be happy. I am a shammed to admitt, I was a Windos user. I made the switch when I saw the G5 in action. I went and got two. I have been happy ever since. Join Us and be happy too.

rolleyes.gif I quietly left the world of IBM, Clones and MS during DOS 1.1, 1.2, 1.3. I previously had started on CPM -- which might have been a great OS if not trounced by the business ethics of a now major (dominant) (monopolistic in Europe) company. Hard drives were not available -- and when we got to several megs of data we started complaining of "fat code" ands "bloated" code,

Along came Mac with a system for the rest of US. It was so long ago, I kludged in a video camera before early scanners available ....tested graphic and industrial programs and had a gaggle of synths, very, very early MOTU stuff, AKIA, Digidesign, learned the arcane language of Midi, added VFXs each year -- then went to the K2000 ++++ in samplers. Almost a trailer full of gear and I was not approaching what I wanted.

Then -- TG - Macs stepped in.....and with their new G5 lines -- have cut my space down to a desktop and keyboard -- with a shelf of samples and a few loop disks.

I write incidental music for shows and create soundscapes for Magic presentations. I wasted a lot of money before MACs latest came along.

If you are a hobbyist that likes to make music by tinkering with wires, boards, and soundcards --- opening and shutting your computer case more often than a maid dusting piano keys on a Knabe Grand, by all means stay with MS/IBM/Pentium machines or even better, get an old patch Moog.

If you seriously want to make music (hobby or short stuff) -- quickly and well --- a new G5 I-Mac with 20" screen & 2 Gig of Ram, 250 DD (7200) with FW ports for outboard conects is about $2600 -- less that I payed for my first K-2000 with fewer horns and whistles in it than last year's MAC.

If you are Heavy Duty -- PowerMac G5 Dualies -- 24 or 30" screen -- max the RAM -- Superdrive it -- and you'll live in your studio with your most productive and friendly LONG LASTING - piece of equipment. Do not skimp on sample sounds (the Vienna Orchestra is awesome -- and Garitan Personal Orchestra is affordable and VG.)

Both are Still a lot less invested than you would have i a good Axe a few pedals mixers, EQ and amps.

[MODERATiON]
Note that I've started to delete posts about the world standard macVSpc BS that is not interesting and valuable only for flame addicts.

Relevant, backed testimonies in a casual tone are the only posts allowed on such a subject, capice? I'm not as strict on this issue in the EN forums as I am in the FR forums because we have had there a LOOOONG thread (100 pages) about it and not here. Please help me and the other moderators to keep the place fun, polite and as informative as possible.

This is a mac-only forum, but we respect other platforms, stepping into a thread only to dis the others for the sake of it has bever brought up something interesting. The flaming rant about my computer is bigger than yours is just stupid. Point wink.gif But as long people tell why it's ok or not for them with some experience, fine!
[/MODERATION]

Now remember MM stepped into the chorus of the virgins praying Apple for a reason, the demo was clearly underrating the PC, a few of the teamers have also PCs and know what they can do or not with them. There was something fishy for us until we have at last the exact specs of the PC used, something was wrong and didn't reflect day by day experience of real users. It doesn't tell that the G5 was a joke, it's not, we ask from Apple some clear statement on the job as it was really strange for people a bit used to both platforms.

MM is a users'site, things are judged accordingly (we try to at least the best we can) to how they behave in real life and not in marketing boobah like in all the PR we receive everyday. Not everything is perfect, every great stuff has bugs, we just want things to be known and corrected for the sake of all users. Bugs known for years should be corrected already, uh? There are other places on the net to read a copy and paste of the press releases.

We just don't "buy" them. cool.gif tongue.gif

While you are trying to prove how superior a Mac computer is, I´ve been making A LOT of money using my single PC.

It´s not about your computer, it´s about what you can do with them.

Ps: By the way, I was oblied to use a Mac EVERYDAY during 4 years of my life, and IMHO, they suck!

I really hate the whole mac vs pc thing. they're just tools. Tools that can be used expertly in the right hands or horrendously the other 99% of the time.

Much more important than mac vs pc are things like finding musicians with real ability and talent. Finding songwriters that can write something more original than the I-wanna-get-with-you drivel all over radio these days.

And most importantly, making music that not only sounds good technically, but inspires and moves the people that experience it.

Lets keep our eyes on the real ball. this website is called macMUSIC, not mac vs. pc
