ok, i just want to make my point clear here ....

YES .... TOOLS .... ( we all should know that )

True ... it is just a Tool ... actually, the PC is just a tool .... i do not hate PCs .... PCs are great! they can do the job... smile.gif

..... but,

your Mac is more than a tool... there is some sort of a relationship..

i wake up sometimes late at night... and i set on my chair and stare into my mac for a while ... oh I LOVE IT .... after that i might be able to sleep ....

PC users usually do not get this kind of feelings toward their PCs ...

because the PC is JUST a tool .....

using a PC is great .... but it does not involve your feelings into the process ....

so, Macs and Music ... it is the perfect fit ... macs are made by artists .... for artists .... ( artists should understand that point )

one last line ... using a mac always pushes me into creating very original work... it stimulates my creativity... either in Music or Graphics Design... it is like if it is saying: be original like me... be simple like me... be ( direct to the point ) like me... start a revolution like me .... aim at perfection .... like me

Think Different ... Compose different ... Play Different

am i the only one getting those feelings ?

most of us here are artists ... we are not the normal case...
(we meditate a lot .. we are very sensitive and emotional )

and yes, as you thought i am single ... smile.gif

and i love my Mac... so much....

While some may say to Bandar "get a life" without the romance of a Mac....I would second his rapturous refrain.

The last time I was involved with a woman who was PC oriented -- we got divorced! I would rather be with a woman who knows nothing about computers than someone who is not using a Mac for computing. In fact -- women with Macs are women who are quality oritented.

An interesting thing -- is that MAC for many purposes is the only line where I could downgrade to cheaper units (E-Mac) for many business finctions and know my software would work better than in any MS situation where the operating system is not only open to attack -- but has been written to obscelescence by bloated and hooked code -- on purpose.

I went through the 7.8.9 and 10 transitions with Mac (not that expensive) and have proffited by it --- with increased performance -- and less downtime than any7 of my PC friends.....who now build downtime, crashes and tech calls ionto their budget as a matter of habit.

I defy anyone -- at the price -- to find better service across the board than the 3 year Applecare plans -----

As I mentioned earlier -- I started with Macs when first out -- stayed with it through a few dogs --- based on state of the art --- and wonder daily about the returning vision of SJ (may he get better and better after his surgery) and how far he has seen into the future with his Pixar, etc. involvement.

Meanwhile my PC friends have been habutualized -- hooked almost as bad as on cigarrettes -- on recurring updates that do not work -- viruses that do work all to well -- software that doesn't jibe -- and service that is at the level of the impoverished beggar on welfare if they do not buy "premium" services. (I am sorry Adobe has let them selves fall victim to this last idea -- even thoiugh I have used them for as long as they have been open. They used to be as service oriented as Mac.)

And has anyone noticed -- slowly -- Mac has grown to 7 per cent of market? They must be doing something right -- and my recent re-entry into music on Mac away from the trailer full of equipment -- has been a realization that there are people who care about quality FOR THE REST OF US.......and that includes Gary Garritan.

why buy a used G4 .....

the iMac G5 is out .... !

and it has optical audio !

( and it is stunning )

and the 20" screen is a bless .... you must look at it to understand how "amazing quality and color purity" is ...

what else do you need? !!! just MAX the RAM ... and you are flying ...

Macs are the only solution out there ...

everything else is an illusion ....

if you want a proof ....

go and test one .......

then get a Mac .....

While you are trying to prove how superior a Mac computer is, I´ve been making A LOT of money using my single PC.

It´s not about your computer, it´s about what you can do with them.

Ps: By the way, I was oblied to use a Mac EVERYDAY during 4 years of my life, and IMHO, they suck!

Then why are you here? Money man..smile.gif

I left PC's years ago and got a mac and started to make money and created several businesses around them and never looked back..

I'd really say that if you want a fast machine, get a Mac G5.

Whether you choose the Dual 1.8 GHz, the Dual 2.0 Ghz or the 2.5 Ghz G5 is up to you.

Apple's G5 Dual 2.5 GHz wasn't made "The world's fastest personal computer" for nothing biggrin.gif

But of course... it's your money and your decision.

Ahhh the nodes!!!
Logic 7 has nice new nodes so you can have dozens of Macs all running your softsynths for you or whatever... pull out your old G4's and buy a bunch of G5's and hook Logic 7 on one and set as the master unit and go for a world record on the gruntiest computer DAW system in the world....

Found this forum in a google search. Would like advice from those who know Mac and PC from experience. Seriously considering selling my PC system and switching to a eMac or iBook. Have done PC music for years and currently seeking to send audio from my turntable through a phono preamp into computer for wave conversion. Will the Mac do this better and easier than a PC? Have a good PC program (DC millenium) for conversions. Also want to convert VHS to DVD (would need DVD-writer, Super Drive I guess.) Does mac do video better as well? Seeking tech specs from those who know and can really give me a convincing argument to sell the PC and switch. Thanks!

Lampmuz,
Your needs sound pretty basic. Talk to someone at an Apple store if possible and check out the Apple support boards. Probably an iMic with it's free software, Final Vinyl will work for you. Go here http://www.griffintechnology.com/

You can check out video converters at MacMall, The Apple Store, ect online.

Ok, so no offense, but some of the posts here don't seem to help the topic so I'll pitch in. As a reminder, I have been using macs for all my life so I will be biased, but I am also a computer science person and have used, built and fixed windows as well as linux machines. Enough introduction.

So, why do I keep on choosing the Mac? Here are some observations:

For example, I use a Powerbook, and I have many friends with Dell Inspirons, IBM Thinkpads, Sony VAIO's and an NEC something. Anyways, all of them have audio line-ins, but the only one usable for recording anything musical is the Powerbook. The reason is quite simple. I'm used to doing lots of demo recordings just through the onboard line-input, and I could monitor through software with satisfactory latency. Somewhere in the 10 miliseconds range at 512k buffer size. Try that on the forementioned wintel laptops and you'll find out that it's impossible to get below something ridiculous like 1500k buffer, and like a 1 second delay. Happens to be that their onboard audio is usually the Intel chipset combo or a SoundMAX board that were more or less designed to be 'extras'. Ofcourse, we can all say that to do anything serious, you need an external audio interface, but hey, it does speak about the quality and consideration put into the hardware design. Besides, it's handy to have this extra input that is actually usable.

Moving on, of course you find that Windows have the higher clock speeds and the generally better looking specs. Ofcourse, my powerbook is shadowed by my friend's 3.2 ghz Pentium 4 tower with a gig of RAM, Radeon 9800 pro, Soundblaster audigy 2 pro etc. Whatever, he likes his as the entertainment machine but he has fiddled with music from time to time. I once had this piano sample that was a gigabyte in size. My powerbook with 512 struggled a lot with it, but played it, his computer barely played it even with double the memory. But the problem is not only that. He got all his computer parts for this home theater thing, but once he got the surround speakers and everything hooked up, the dvd's don't produce any sound. Turns out that Media Player doesn't recognize the soundcard without some really specific configuration (which I had to help) to pass on the correct channels, and even then it only worked for AC3 Surround. No DTS even though both his audiocard and his videocard claims decoding of them. By the way, the dvd player program that came with his videocard only wants to do 2 channels even though the system is set up for surround.

Well, enough ranting for tonight. I'm sorry if this bored you or you didn't find it helpful at all. I thought I'd share a case by case example. Oh and P.S. we don't get attacked by being on the internet. Buy a PC if you like being tech support. If you really like tinkering, get Linux and you can even write your own version of programs! wink.gif
