I would love to hear of any experiences or rumours pertaining to the use of a digi 001 soundcard with PTLE and a titanium powerbook 700mhz w/ 256mb ram. What's the interface/ adaptor that i need to attach it to my laptop? if it's possible, then would i be able to pack on my plug-ins [edit LPM: forbidden!]? does it have to get installed by a profi? await eagerly the results of my fellow do-gooders! (stop me from crying)

As the Digi001 is PCI based, you're in a dead end with a laptop. You must use either a Mbox or Digi002 in order to use PT LE with a PB sad.gif

And NO TALK about Kracks HERE, final! angry.gif

OK - i'll be straight. My old system is AMIII on a G3 which was fine till he keeled over last week. Now i bought a PW 700mhz and a digi002R which is obviously bad. One needs at least 867mhz to run the rack... So. The reason i got the old powerbook is becos i wanted to run X for rack and use 9 for my recent songs.
And now i'm in a massive quandary. Do I
a) return the rack and PB and buy a digi001 and a corresponding mac (but which mac would be the most powerful?) or
b) keep the rack and search ebay for the next 2 weeks for a pb with both systems and loads of herz or
c) keep my pb and buy an RME or motu and switch back to Logic?

Basically, I NEED PLUG-IN POWER, and i need it for 3000 euros, and i need a generous plug-in bundle to match. And i need multi (at least 2 parallell mics) ins.

Do you think you have any inspirational ideas for me? I do know logic a bit, but can one be as exact in the placement of sounds on beats as with PTs? Could i afford a motu and digi 001 and a corresponding mac?
I would SO be your absolute best friend if you helped me out on this one - my album deadline is november 30th... Aaarrrgghh!!! huh.gif By the way - i'm so sorry i didn't find this place sooner! wow - so many great people!
cheers

If you really need power, forget the laptop, less power for more $$$.

There's around lots of desktop G4, most can be upgraded, and will be bombs in OS 9 (you'll have more power estate in OS 9).

Gigadesign just issued DP 1.42 card for previously not supported MDD G4… I think you should study carefully xlr8yourmac.com. To run OSX you need at least a G4 800, but once sttled, the more power the better, only AGP video will give you Quartz Extreme acceleration for the screen redrawing, it helps too. You may even find year old mono G5 around for the price of a DP G4 (they kill a DP G4 on sight).

RME, the 002 and Motu make great interfaces, only the 001 or 002 will make you able to use PT LE, But beware, the 001 is a dead end in OS X. Look the compato page for compatibility.

Logic is a great software, with overall good plug-ins thrown in but not easy to grasp, I won't recommend it to you if you're in a hurry. PT is way easier to grasp.

One problem at a time…
