Hi,

Great forum!

Hopefully all of you can help me select a soft-synth program. I'm new to the world of virtual instruments and I need help biggrin.gif

I going to be traveling (G4Tit 1Ghz 15" OSX, 9.2.2) and I want to have access to midi patches without taking a rack module with me. I'm looking for a program that will work within the DP and Finale environments. An added bonus would be if the program worked as a stand alone application (not only as a plugin). I'm looking for realistic acoustic instrument patches (woodwinds, brass, classical instruments) Most of my work is big band and jazz related so I don't really use any of the hip-hop, rock, loop related stuff. smile.gif

I'm interested in hearing what software synth/sampler and samples you would recommend.

Does anyone have some good info about DP's new MACH5 program?
- Looks good on their website

Thanks -kk

I own DP3, Logic5.5 & cubase5. IK multimedia has an MAS version of SampleTank.

They even have a free version that they release sounds for every month.
They also have info on RT Player, it a standalone app that lets you play virtual instruments in real time.
http://www.sampletank.com

Also check out http://www.unicornation.com for the DP user community.

There you will find reports from people who use the various VST-Wrapper apps.

thanks G-Dub.

I checked out SampleTanks free app, its still abit limited with free sounds- (Though thats not a real problem, I'm willing to purchase a full version package.) I just want to make sure it fits my needs before I shell out the dough. smile.gif I'm not real happy with the interface. The only free sounds that suit my needs are the vocal choir patches - they sounded OK.

What do you think about SampleTank for realistic acoustic instr (non-free) patches? Like /dislike?

Have you used NI Kontakt? I've tried the demo. So far it's at the top of my list- mainly because of the user interface. Again I haven't tried many sound samples- I keep finding loops not sounds. Though Kontakt worked GREAT as a transcription tool!

How about DP's NEW MACH5?

Thanks again, I'll check out the DPforum.
