welcome any thoughts, i run logic 6 pro on a new 17"g4 powerbook, but i find that literally 4 or 5 tracks of audio and midi running virtual synths and the system overloads

i use the internal drive for portability - would an external one make a big difference?

is this just how it is, or am i missing something important?

For any serious audio work, the general consensus seems to be to separate the app/system hard drive from the audio recording/virtual instrument sample drive. After realizing that this is the major bottleneck, I went out and purchased a smaller capacity laptop hard drive and a firewire case to go with it -- those will work off the laptop's firewire bus power, so you still get the portability.
