Garage Band Vs. Logic Express?, Garage Band vs. Logic Express? Options

I'm a former Micro Logic AV user who is thoroughly enjoying Garage Band. But occasionally I need a program with effects sends, etc. I'm thinking about Logic Express, which looks good to me. What is other people's experience regarding Logic Express? Thanks!

I too used to use Logic Av but last year upgraded to the Logic Big Box (similar to express). I've never looked back. The improvement is immense and, though I like Garageband tons, Logic is first choice for me.

I have recently started using Garage Band (from Logic 4.8) and while it's not nearly as flexible in terms of cutting up audio and structuring songs (which is what I've mainly used Logic for), it is SURPRISINGLY good.

I also bought Logic Express last week, and it does quite a lot of things that my old version of Logic didn't, so I would highly recommend it. One thing that would be nice would be some way of accessing the Garage Band software instruments via Logic Express. Is this possible?

Accessing the instruments would be great. From all my reading (and trying) there appears to be no way of doing it Garageband to Logic but the opposite is possible. Eg. You can access the EXSP24 as an AU in Garageband.

you can access and edit the instruments in Garage Band, it just not as visual and user-freindly as Logic.

Visit on of the garage band sites for details. People are actully editing the instruments to turn off the effects to free up more cpu.

I use Garageband when I record pop/rock songs at home. I've used Tracktion, and I sometimes still do, but I like Garageband because I don't need to engineer when I'm performing. I can focus on good solid playing and singing. It was mostly useless to me when until I upgraded my G3 to a 1.6/1 gig G5. No cpu issues now My recording sound much better than tracktion, which lacks good preset effects patches. Garageband is better than it has any business being, but it is cpu hog and it has some serious limitation. I'd never use it to make techno (i use reason). It would be hard to make anything interesting, but it's a great tool for home recording.
