Perhaps somebody can shed light on my problem here. I have installed a Firewire 410 on a G5 (dual processor). The interface seems to be working fine -- it is detected, and the audio is routed to it (input and output). I am trying to record an incoming SPDIF bitstream. The bitstream is correctly detected (sample rate etc.). When I look at the sound preferences menu, the sound input is displayed on the bar graph in the Apple settings.
But, despite all this, I am unable to find any program that can actually record the incoming bitstream. I have tried half a dozen programs, to no avail. Spin Doctor 2 does not even recognize the settings with Firewire 410.
I tried Audacity, Bias Peak, and a couple of freebie audio recorders.
I can playback the sound using my headphones connected to the Firewire 410, but I am unable to record the bitstream.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Have you selected the correct input in the program? I have recorder SPDIF audio from a Firewire 410 from DSP-Quattro, and I have had no problems. I just must select the correct inputs; The Firewire 410 offers 4 inputs: inputs 1 and 2 are the analog inputs, and inputs 3 and 4 are the SPDIF inputs. For example, in Amadeus II you should select the Firewire 410 as the audio input (using CoreAudio drivers) and you can select each individual input you assign to the left and right channels. Open the Audacity preferences, and tell it that you are going to record 4 inputs from the Firewire 410. It should record two silent channels (1 and 2) provided you have nothing connected to the analog inputs (quite noisy if you are not feeding a SPDIF signal, as the clock is external in that case), and two audio channels, 3 and 4. Try it and tell us if it works
