I am really enjoying Ableton's Live 4 beta, very solid and working beautifully!
Has anyone else out there been playing with it and do you have any thoughts on the new features? Once I upgrade to version 4 the dust will start to settle on Digital Performer 4. -------------------- Ableton Live 4.1

There are still bugs with some VSTi though.
I like it so far only have to learn some Live's way of MIDI. |

I've given the beta a test drive, and it seems quite nice. I already use and love Ableton Live. It is my favorite looper by far, and superior to REX files (in my opinion) that can get choppy at certain tempos. It is also nice to load AU and VST instruments right in your Live session. MIDI clips are very cool for sketching out ideas as well. I'm trying not to get too attached to it though. I keep telling myself that my Digidesign edition is enough for me to get by, especialy since I just bought Logic Express.
There is always something to spend your money on the the Studio! TD -------------------- |

I'm liking it a great deal. I think it's the further evolution of a great piece of software. It does more of what Live already does better than anyone. For me, the dust will never settle on Digital Performer 4. Live's MIDI implementation is really quite bare bones but quite possibly fine for a lot of users. DP4 is still the ultimate scalpel. And for auto editing and processing, DP4 wins hands down. But comparison feels silly to me. They are apples and oranges. Nothing out there compares to Live's improvisational approach and the 4 beta feels more solid and musical than ever.

I'm loving it. It may be the last piece of music software I need
What I'd like to know is how performance experience is.. I notice it's faster than 3. But on my PB G4/500 I max out pretty quickly (a couple of Apple AU's, iDrum and Buzzer2 run up to 65% on the meter). I'd love to hear a PB G4/1,5 user say he's/she's running Pro53, Minimoog V, FM7 and Altiverb in Live 4 without any problems and room for some more Altiverbs... Cheers, that was my first post, Allert |

I have a PB g4 1ghz, and cpu usage gets really tight. specially running two or three together? I use pro53, mostly to create pads, and other NI vst and those are really hungry for power, I still what to test Live4 with some vst; I will let you know...

Mayybe it's because of a known incompatebility problem with native instrument VSTi's.
I've seen something like that on the ableton site. |
