i just upgraded my g3 with a new 533 mhz processor and OS x. i installed a usb card but my problem is that i have MOTUs midi express which has a serial port. will i be able to plug into OS X and DP 4 via the serial port? do i have to buy a new interface? what about iMate?

You need one of theseThis replaces your internal modem port with a serial port. See Compatibility List

The question really isn't whether DP4 will work but rather will any MIDI software recognise the MIDI express. You need to have a core MIDI driver for OS X. If "Audio MIDI setup" (in Applications>Utilities) can see your interface then it should work with any MIDI application on OS X. Try downloading http://www.motu.com/downloads/MTPMac/usbx_1.22.hqx and see if Mac OS X can recognise the interface. This is the only driver for OS X that MOTU has on their website that I can see. http://www.motu.com/english/download/index.html
