Should I Buy Digital Performer 4 For My Comp, g3 with serial ports upgraded to g4 OS X Options

i just upgraded my g3 with a new 533 mhz processor and OS x. i installed a usb card but my problem is that i have MOTUs midi express which has a serial port. will i be able to plug into OS X and DP 4 via the serial port? do i have to buy a new interface? what about iMate?

Sorry, I misread your post (read it a little too fast). I thought you had upgraded to a G4/533.
If you have just placed a faster 533MHz processor in your computer then your serial ports should still work.
Have you actually tried connecting the MOTU MIDI express to the serial port that already exists on your G3?

no i was using performer 5.5 and with an older mac which worked fine. but then i got a deal with this computer and the software became obsolete. is there a way to test it somehow before i purchase this new software

The question really isn't whether DP4 will work but rather will any MIDI software recognise the MIDI express.

You need to have a core MIDI driver for OS X. If "Audio MIDI setup" (in Applications>Utilities) can see your interface then it should work with any MIDI application on OS X.
Try downloading http://www.motu.com/downloads/MTPMac/usbx_1.22.hqx and see if Mac OS X can recognise the interface.
This is the only driver for OS X that MOTU has on their website that I can see.
