Does anyone know if Logic Pro 6 can save files mixed in surround 5.1 format directly into the Dolby AC-3 format, to be burned to DVD.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think thats possible. I believe you will need a dedicatet software for AC-3 decoding like Minnetonka or Appels DVD authoring program DVD Studio Pro.
Helpfull? rolleyes.gif

Saving as AC-3 directly from Logic is impossible!!

However it has been pointed out that you will need a seperate application. DVD studio Pro comes with an application called Dolby A.Pack. which does the AC-3 encoding for you from 6 mono or stereo files. This is what Logic exports when doing a surround bounce. Just make sure you put the right audio file in the right position in A.Pack otherwise you'll end up with some pretty funky effects.

A few other issues to think about.

1/ if you want to use AC-3 for the DVD then everything has to be in AC-3 otherwise DVD Studio will not import it so convert all audio files to AC-3 before starting your project. (They don't have to be surround either cause you can split a stereo file into constituent parts and put the left channel in in the front left and the left surround etc.)

2/ A.pack can also encode for DVD-Audio disk's I believe it just puts more of an emphasis on quality of audio if you select this option.

3/ there were a few others but I can't for the life of me remember them. Oh well 3 can be if you have anymore questions PM me and I'll try and sort them out for you.

Have a nice day,

C
