Hello again! =D I've another musical puzzle for everyone:

I downloaded several shareware and freeware programs over the weekend, including Virtual Drummer (which was reccommended in another post), and a free version of Pro Tools, just to try it out. (Though I'm planning on buying Logic quite soon, seeing as it's what Radiohead uses!!)

Anyhow, I can't seem to play any MIDIs while within Virtual Drummer or Pro Tools -- when I hit the 'play' button in these programs, all I get is an odd ticking noise. I can open and play MIDIs just fine using Quicktime, but if I try to create/play MIDIs using these other programs, it doesn't work. =(

I'm running on OS X (10.1), and even tried running the programs while in 0S 9.2, but still no luck. Any suggestions?

Thank you! =D

it's me, yet again, from the other topic you posted. none of the programs you mention work with osX. the problem then may be in the midi driver, check out opcode, they have free download of the latest OMS, a widely used midi driver. a warning, though, protools, in my opinion, is the best audio software, but its midi side is quite akward. and lastly, the clicks you hear are not metronome, are they? good luck, i just switch from hardware sequencing to software myself, i understand your pain.

hi! i have never had a problem with virtual drummer. i'm not sure what the problem is. i always create the drum song i want, then export it into my favorite recording program. it almost sounds like your trying to import midi files into the virtual drummer. if so, i don't think that will work at all.

First off, thanks for all of your help, Nathanan, in this and in other topics! =D Thanks also to you, Kabooma! =D

I think the problem is that the copy of OMS I downloaded. Maybe it was corrupted; it keeps crashing my computer! This happens when I run it in 10.1, and also in 9.2. Hmm...

Unfortunately, it's wrse than that. ;.; If I create a MIDI file in the program, I can't play it back. When I click the play button nothing happens at first, then after a few moments all I get is an odd sort of tapping or clicking or pattering sort of noise, which I'm almost certain it's a metronome, seeing as its pattern is uneven.

Unlucky me! =(

I had the same problem. MIDIs wouldnt play on my ibook. The conflict, i believe, is caused only with Quicktime 5. Since i didnt know how to solve it, i reinstalled Quicktime 4, and the problem was ....well, solved.
