Hey, all! I'm looking into buying some eMagic Logic Audio for remixing/DJ purposes, and was wondering which version (Silver, Gold, or Platinum) would best suit my cute little iBook, who's equipped wth the following:

500MHz PowerPC G3
256K on-chip L2 cache
256MB SDRAM memory
20GB Ultra ATA drive
8MB video memory
RGB video output
Two USB ports
FireWire port

Is Platinum too much for my system to handle, or overkill? Can anyone on iBook offer some suggestions?

Thank so much!! ^^

i am using logic gold on my ibook, with emagic's emi2/6 as my audio interface and mt4 for midi. it has been great. as far as i know, apart from a bit more limited audio tracks and effects, as well as not supporting surround mixing, it is not that far behind platinum. i think you can do a lot with it. i don't know about silver, it all depends on how much you want to use the program for, really. you may want to check out the exact specs at emagic's web site. well, get it soon, you will be amaze of how much it can do if you give it time.

Forgive me for being a paib, but what are Emi 2/6 and MT4, and what are they used for, exactly? I've been trained in classical music for the past ten years, but am as yet quite unfamiliar with the digital stuff. ^^;

Thanks for your help!! =D

hi again. to answer your questions; the emi 2/6 is a usb audio interface and the mt4 is a usb midi interface, both from emagic, whose software we are discussing.
in order to get audio into your computer, you can use the built-in mic, but for serious work, i don't think it is acceptable. you will need an audio interface, since the ibook dose not come with an audio in port. you will have to go with either a usb or a firewire, so far, the only firewire interface i know of is the motu 828, which cost about $700. then there are some usb interfaces, which, most of the times, people had found to be unreliable. but to my experience, the emi2/6 works fine with logic.

now, the mt4. it is an interface for transmission of your midi messages to and from logic and other midi instruments if you choose to use them, if you are not use to working with midi. you should probably get some kind of a contraller, such as a keyboard, it is more fun to program with it.

one of the most important thing to find out when dealing with making music with a computer is the issue of compatibilty. find yourself some tutorials to read, check out intermusic.com. well, i had gone on for too long, but hope to have helped.
