I just visited the Intermusic.com forums and was browsing computer audio topics and noticed a funny trend. Seems like a lot of people are having problems with the SoundBlaster cards and various other glitches and one thing they all have in common... they are all using PC's. Not to say that the Mac never has problems but I think most multi-platform users will agree that the Mac has much fewer problems than its rival PC systems.

I opted for a Digi 001 setup for my mac and running ProTools. I have never ran into a problem with this system that wasn't something contributed to wrong settings in prefs or just my own goof. It seems that Logic and Cubase on the PC causes many headaches. Just another reason I prefer the Mac ;-)

I work for a concert promoter and I constantly see musicians who use macs on stage because they simply are the best. Last week I worked with Madonna, and her stage show utilizes at least two titanium powerbooks running protools, an iBook, and a G4 tower. Macs rule!!!!!!

Glad everyone agrees... like I had told others... with a mac, you spend more time creating and less time trouble-shooting and pulling your hair out ;-)

I agree. I've spent the last month questioning as many musicians and computer stores as possible on what system is the best to go with. They all emphatically and unequivacally voted on mac.

Mac is far superior (in my experience).

I started out several years ago using an old mac for a bunch of midi stuff.... never once had a problem (I even still use it now ocasionally).... then I got a PC for other purposes.... decided to start doing digital audio... figured, 'Oh they've probably worked out all the PC audio bugs by now'.... bought my MOTU 2408 and STEINBERG CUBASE VST.......................... then I spent the next six months bashing my head against a wall, dealing with crashes/glitches/freezes, not to mention running up my long distance bills through the roof talking to technical support people who all basically ended up saying ,'you shoulda bought a mac'.
So I ended up buying a MAC, (which I knew I should have in the first place) and have had absolutely no problems since.


BOTTOM LINE: MACINTOSH ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kryngle... sorry you had to learn the hard way ;-) but glad you seen the light hehe

I also read article about a guy wishing do get into dgital video editing and bought a pc then spent over $1000 upgrading it for video and found out that no matter what he did with the PC... he still lost a few frames here and there and after checking technical support found out that he would have to spend several more thousand dollars to add hardware interface that MAY cure his problem or may not... so he sold the PC and bought a G4 and has never been happier. I like stories with a happy ending ;-)

Another good example... my father works for a design agency that does a lot of video, animation, and print work. In early years, they used macs. They didn't even have a tech department because it wasn't needed. Well then some exec decided to save money and go with some PC clones for next upgrade. Long story short, they now have a tech department of about 4 guys that make at least $50-60k a year and they have even more font problems and such now. So much for those savings lol.

But can somebody tell me why such fast computer and so great programmers don´t get these machines to run?

I am a real hardcore plugin-user and I also crash my Mac G4 / 400 with logic three times a day, but at least he runs the rest of the time. My PC´s didn´t even run half of the time.

Can someone tell me the solution to run Waves plugs (Renaisance Verb and C4) on a mac without a consumtion of about 50% per plug (without TDM) ??

i have heard that even the programmers for windows aren't keen in it... claims that is just too much hacked code from previous systems that was just adapted and so there are lots of glitches and secority loop holes due to this.

I would recommend running a lean system (only turn extensions on that you need) and upgrade to as much RAM as possible. RAM is lower in price than it eve has been. You can get 512mb module for less than $100 if you look in the right areas. Other, than that, make sure you are using proper settings in Logic for your hardware and remember that some plugs are just REAL memory hogs and so you may still not be able to run many without crashing.

Also, remember that mhz niumbers don't mean much when comparing Mac with a Pentium... example my 350mhz G3 is every bit as fast a 500mhz Pentium III if not faster. Then new 733mhz machines are about as fast a any PC 1ghz+ machine especially in graphic apps.

Yes the Mac is the best for audio, no question, but let´s not get
too euphoric. Last week I worked with a colleage in his studio
as he was installing all his hard and software in a new G4 533
dual. It was HELL with three days of bomb crashes, incompatibilities
and mayhem. For example how do you react when you find your
USB floppy drive does not support authorization disks? Life can be
hard at the leading edge!!
