I just got a motu 828. Installed on my G4 dual 1.25 dual boot in OS 9.2 and am using it with cubase 5.1.

It only works on and off. It often crashes Cubase, and after rebooting my g4 won't even see the 828. I have to switch it off and on (the 828) in order for the G4 to recognize it. And then it crashes Cubase again and again. Sometimes it does work, but I can't figure out why.
Would anyone know? I called Steinberg and Motu, but they can't help.

Btw, this is the second machine I am trying, I already brought one back!

You can try the following:

1) Rebuild the desktop (hold down Option+Cmd keys while booting your computer - Until system asks - if really want rebuild.

2) Go to the System-->Program/Preferences folder and thrash the prefernces for
Finder, Cubase & the 828., Free Midi/OMS

3) Use a good disktool Norton,Diskwarrior, Techtool and check your system.
And the harddrive, volumes. folders files etc

4) Check that you really use the latest CORRECT drivers to your 828.

5) Check you have the latest correct pacthes/drivers for Cubase 5.1

6) Remove all 3:rd party extensions/control panels - you DONT need while doing
music. (make a special music-set using the extensions-manager)

7) Check your ram-memory - Removing memorysticks one by one and see if
your problems remain or what. (Norton, Techtool can also check your ram)

8) Try increasing the memory allotment for Cubase. Select the Cubase icon and
press Cmd+I keys. In the Info dialog pull down the little menu in the middle.
Choose the command at the bottom (dont remember what its called)
In the memory info pane increase the maximum memory with 8Mb or
some other amount. Try agin to make music

9) If all else fails. Backup & reformat your harddrive reinstall first the system &
then your music apps , Drivers patches etc and see what happens.
