Hello, first of all my hardware setup:

Motu firewire 828mk2;
Ti PowerBook, 867Mhz, 768 Mb RAM, 40 Gb HardDisk, OS 9.2.2;
Logic Audio 4.8.1

I must tell that everything works just fine, but I have just two problems:

1. Is it possible to mirror the master analog output (11-12) to the TOSLink optical stereo output (13-14)?

Until now I didn't achieve to monitor the computer software generated sound and at the same time record this signal on a DAT via TOSLink. It seems to me that the Master output must be analog OR digital, but both at the same time how can I do this with the 828mk2????

2. Is it possible to mirror the master analog output (11-12) to the incorporated phones output of the PowerBook (using soundmanager?) ?

Sometimes when I am on the road I only have my PowerBook with me. And it is very annoying to have
to change from ASIO MOTU Firewire back to MacAV then, and change all outputs, busses etc (this automatic conversion made by Logic isn't free from bugs..). For me it would be very nice to have this option.

Thanks.

Hello there,
I have exactly the same problem as you.It is impossible to listen to the tracks using the Powerbook headphone out without changing the Audio Driver configuration.But a bigger problem is that once you have changed to Mac Av and you come back to ASIO (at least in my case) everything has messed up terribly and I do not get any sound at all.I have to copy and paste the tracks to a new Logic session and trash the old one.

Not that long ago I gave up on it, I could not find a satisfactory way to go round the problem.I will try again to see if I come up with something!!!

Hi there,

Thanks for your reaction. Actually the conversion asked to be done by Logic for each file going from MacAV to ASIO, in my case is done properly in exeption for the outputs and busses. So I write them down (levels and busnumber) and copy it in the new Logic file.

And what about the digital TOSLink output? Can you output the master to both an analog and the digital stereo output?
Do you know anything about this option? I've mailed to MOTU techsupport but they didn't reply to my messege yet...????

hello averogi.
so motu's support still takes a week to answer? too bad. i have written to them about it. they said they were backed up, but would start their 2day service support soon.

anyway, i do not know about mirroring the signals. i do know that you can output the master outs AND the toslink. easy. there are two ways to do it:
the easy wasy [hardware]
this is done through the card interface. press the setup button, and jog till you get to "optical out" option. select using the value knob.
the easier way: [software]
open ur MOTU FireWire Console [in applications]. go to 828mk2 pane, and select in the optical output pop-up menu - TOSlink. presto. [this overrides your knob adjustments].

all this info is in the manual. i recommend reading it well...

come on now...
rtfm is kinda harsh.. don't you need some help? i thought that i saw you ask like 6 questions in one paragraph, snow. i am sure that you took about 10 steps to many to make an aiff file. but hey! who reads manuals anyway?

Well, well...,

Of course I know you can output via analog and TOSLink. That was not my question. My question is (was) how to use both of them AT THE SAME TIME.

MOTU posted me an answer: grab two patch cables, patch the stereo main outs of the interface to any stereo input pair and then use the CUE Mix application to direct the signal to the four possible mix busses (of which one could be the TOSLink and another Monitor).

Although this is not a really sophisticated way of routing the signal, it works.

Trying to mirror the master signal to the mains AND the TOSlink AT THE SAME TIME doesn't work with Logic Audio (4.8.1) because you can route only ONE stereo master output pair.

If you know another more sophisticated way..., tell me!

bye, averogi
