anyone recommend a good partition scheme to get audio and non audio harddrives on my mac. tried it l;ast week and have put too much memory on the audio side due to over estimating the size of my audio files. here are my stats to give you more of an idea.
Computer: G4 iMac OS's: both OS 9.2.2 and OS X Software: Logic Audio 4.8 Amount of audio files : bout 2-3 cd's worth. Total Memory: 55GB basically only use my computer for logic so the HD memory doesnt need to be massive. i split it at a 60:40 ratio (Audio:HD) which resulted in me having about 35GB for Audio and 20 for my non-audio side which is making my mac run a bit slow. I also used the OS 9.2 and OS X install cd's to reboot my computer after partitioning it and now lost some programs like itunes and idvd, should i use the RESTORE CD's instead of the INSTALL CD's, the instuctions i followed to partition said use the install ones but as i said before i've lost some programs now. hopefully someone can give me some advice. cheers. |

hello tom.
as for you system software, os x installs fresh versions of idvd/itunes etc. when u install new system software. idvd comes only on superdrive mac systems. i gather you imac is superdrive equipped. i would try that over the restore CDs. the first thing i would do is try to get more storage. if you play in the audio world, you'll need that space anyway, sooner or later - might as well be sooner - it will make you happy. i recently bought my second EZQuest 120GB firewire HD for $150. mind you - your audio paratition is now 35GB. with 2-3 cd worth of audio - you have plently of space. try to install only applications you know, in order to keep the system side down. you can install OSX only, on a new formatted drive, without system 9, to save more space. anything you dl from the net, goes to the sys HD by default - so pay attention. if you use this paratition for itunes music and photos - no wonder you are out of space - u just need more space. so if getting a new drive is too much, you can do some maintenance and get some more space, or reformat and enlarge your system paratition. -------------------- have a good one
snow setup: dual 2.7 G5 OSX 10.4.2 Logic express |
