Hello,
I have been gathering info over the last several days to try and build a great home recording studio primarily for sequencing music and playback. Here's what I have come up with so far: >Computer: Mac G5 Dual 2G processor, $2000+ >Interface: Motu 828MkII, $750 >Software: Digital Performer v4, $550 >Sounds: Propellerhead Reason, $350 Now, without breaking the bank all at once , I was wondering if my iMac G3 processor would suffice in place of the Mac G5 above, without wanting to put a sledge to it in frustration when it is bogging down. Is there anyone using an iMac G3 with Digital Performer? Thanks, Scott -------------------- It's not about fame, but rather the experience

Scott:
I recently bought the MOTU 828 Mk II for use with my iBook G3 500 Mhz Mac. I didn't get DP, but the 828 comes with AudioDesk, which is like a stripped down version of DP. It came in both OS9 and OSX versions. I had upgraded my iBook to OS 10.2.8 and maxed out the RAM, in preparation for this new arrival. However, I found that the G3 was too sluggish with the AudioDesk running under OSX. I reverted back to OS9 and it is fine. I imagine that you'd find the same problems, but worse, with DP under OSX on a G3. Note that if you do get the 828, complete with Audiodesk, the cost of upgrading to DP is only $300-$400, not the full price of $550. Carlos |
