Hello all! I'm new to MAC and I just recently purchased a G5 1.6, I gig of RAM, 80gig HD. I'm looking at geting a good soundcard and was looking at the MOTU 828 MK II. I'll be running Logic 6, Kontact and a few other pieces of software controlled by a MIDI synth.
I've heard that using a firewire soundcard can be bad news, is this true even with the power of the G5?
Thank you for your time.

Hi!!!!.Man you have an impressive equipment, Logic 6, the G5, sounds good to me!!!!.I would not be worried to be using a firewire interface at all, is in fact a very reliable option!!!!.If you don´t go that way you only have two options available, USB (far slower than Firewire, you may have latency problems although the new USB protocol 2.0 is much faster that the 1.0 version) or a PCI card.Obviously whoever told you that you may have problems with Firewire was thinking about a PCI card as the best solution.I have a MOTU 828 MKII myself and I have not observed any remarkable difference in terms of reliability or sound with other friends of mine who use PCI cards. The only thing that is true is that a Firewire Interface is a bit more expensive than other PCI cards including Moto PCI cards with the same number of I/O , so it is up to you to decide if it is worth to pay that little bit extra. The main advantage of the Firewire Interface it is its portability, you could get a laptop in the future or use it on another computers, etc, etc....Another thing you get with Firewire are mic preamps (2 with the MOTU 828 MKII, 4 with the Digi 002 rack).
I hope it helps!!!!!

Yeah, you're right! I have it hooked up now and it's the best soundcard I've ever had. It really has the most bang for the buck. A lot of features that I really like. Thanks again!
