Well, I don't know about freeware, but a very cheap solution is QuickTime Pro. If you have QuickTime 4 or above and have (and are willing to shell out) 30 bucks, go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/upgrade/ and click on the "upgrade now" link. Quicktime Pro, among other things, lets you convert MIDI files to MP3, AAC, WAV, and AIFF, plus convert among those formats, plus, if you do any movie stuff too, you can do simple editing and lots of conversion. For me, it was worth the investment. It's helped me out of many a jam, such as when I was making a movie on Medival Music for the school Medival Day, and I just could not import certain audio and video files into the program I used...
